Nice thread, too bad LEDs in a high, low or fog install will only be cosmetic. Because though my 9006 fog LEDs are bright, they have no light beam/pattern.
Kinda weird.....

Yeah, wasn't doing it as a LED list just a lighting list as a whole so I threw those in there. Hopefully in the near future they will be more than just cosmetic in those applications.

Hak310, when you ordered the LEDS from v-leds.com which particular ones did you get?

The two colors I'm getting are blue and white in 194. There is like 3 different type bulbs that might work.

This is my list below with the colors I want. Should I consider getting different types for the different applications.

Exterior

Corners lights (4) 194 white

License plate (2) 194 white

Interior

Gauges cluster (6) 194 blues

Ash Tray (1) 194 white

Glove Box (1) 194 white

Door Lights (1) 194 white

Floor Courtesy Lights (2) 194 white

HVAC Controls (4) T1.5 blue

Headlight Switch (1) NEO4 blue

This is what I'm talking about:

It will depend how much you are willing to spend, I kinda went with their high quality lights. The NEO wedge bulbs will you have to get from superbrightleds.com. Let me know if you need help on other applications.

haks310
06-06-2009, 04:29 AM
I would of used the same LEDs I am running in the foor lights in the corners but they were a bit too big. Also the door and license LEDs are slightly different than mine, mine only has four LEDs compared to the six these have. Could not find the four LED ones, they both have the same concept with them pointing 90 degrees.

http://v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/Turn-Signal-LED/Amber-LED/V-LEDS-TYPE-2-DUAL-COLOR-p7114824-1-2.html

I looked over the door lights and license plate LEDs I used and it looks like they quit making them and replaced them with the ones I linked in my previous post.

Puddle lights? The ones by your feet? Those are 168s so you can use a 194 bulb.

Your link shows the four LED bulbs. I'm scratching my head here..... Did you mean to say you got the six bulb ones and you can now only find the four bulb ones?

haks310
06-17-2009, 12:43 PM
As long as it is not herpes it is all good.

The needles are clear and are just painted, would just have to take that paint off with some nail polish I am thinking and then re-painting them with some hobby paint so they can be semi clear.

AtomicHoe094
06-17-2009, 03:38 PM
haha. hmm that would be sexy. how are you going to take off the needles? or leave em on and paint em???

haks310
06-17-2009, 04:10 PM
Using a fork as a lever. You gotta make sure you put the needles in the same spot though so nothing is off.

You have to take them off to paint them, they are painted from behind so that would be a bitch to do with them on haha

AtomicHoe094
06-17-2009, 04:17 PM

http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts.aspx?category|category_root|-26=Lighting&category|cat_-26|143=Clear+Corner+Lenses&canned_results_trigger=&partfamilyid=6234

I wouldn't waste my money on the cheaper ones I bought first. While I think they look better, they don't compare to how bright these new ones are.

07-31-2009, 01:09 AM

Yep...that's were I first saw them, through your link. I also am going to steal your idea for all white LED gauge lights with white needles. So that makes at least three things (including the lighted top reflector) I stole from you.

Got my LED's in the mail today and started putting them in. The corners look awesome, as do the interior ones.

Couple questions:

1. Is there a way to tell if all the LED's in the gauge cluster are on? These lights are so bright, I'm not sure they are all on.

2. I marked the gauge needles with a piece tape when i removed them. When doing so, I tried to pull them off in the exact same position but think i might have not got the speedo exact. Is there a way to put the gauges back on if you didn't have reference points.

3. What type of 211 dome light bulb would you guys recommend or have used. I'd like to use one of the multi-LED boards, but am not sure if it will fit.
http://www.v-leds.com/Interior-LED/Camper-RV-LED/White-LED/V-LEDS-HID-WHITE-48-M-p5217649-1-2.html

Thanks for any help guys...

p.s. i might have accidentally ordered too many of these: http://www.v-leds.com/Interior-LED/DomeMap-LED/White-LED/V-LEDS-HID-WHITE-6-LED-p5168709-1-2.html
If I can't find a use for them, i'd sell them to someone on here for a good deal.

---------- Post added at 04:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:15 AM ----------

Also, if any one is looking at doing this project, I would HIGHLY recommend using these: http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/CornerSide-Marker-LED/White-LED/2-HID-WHITE-6-LED-LIGHT-p4481033-1-2.html in the door lights instead of these: http://www.v-leds.com/Interior-LED/DomeMap-LED/White-LED/V-LEDS-HID-WHITE-6-LED-p5168709-1-2.html

IMO, the panel ones don't disperse the light evenly through the housing, making it look kinda shitty.

Also, I would recommend these for the corner lights, due to the multi-angle projection they put out. http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/CornerSide-Marker-LED/White-LED/2-HID-6K-WHITE-SMT-5-p4481039-1-2.html

Just my two cents

haks310
08-04-2009, 12:50 AM
Just make sure you don't have any dark spots. I put in two LEDs on different ends of the circuit board then made sure the polarity was correct, then worked my way in.

Once you take the needles off they will never be exact when you put them back on. Would be even harder trying to do it without a reference point. Tape was a good idea. Taking pictures of the gaugewith the engine off and with it at normal operating temp is also a tood idea.

Those circuit boards would be super broght. I am running the ones that have 6 SMT LEDs and they are plenty bright. I would give you the link but I am on my phone at the moment.

mikeykey
08-04-2009, 04:40 PM
Well, i sanded my needles down today and then cleaned the up with acetone. While giving them a final "wipe off", two needles tips broke off. I guess the acetone makes the plastic brittle. Sooooo, its to the junk yard for some needles......

3 in mine and does this small bulb comes out the holder?

the t 1.5 l.e.d is too big

haks310
08-07-2009, 12:40 PM
The T1.5s will fit. Sometimes the bulb and holder wont come out together so you will have to take the bulb out the holder and just replace the bulb. Superbrightleds sells the T1.5s bulbs by themselves, they're 74s

qlc1964
08-08-2009, 01:08 AM
you mean dismantel the l.e.d out it's holder?

did you get the hid kit or the whole head light?

haks310
08-08-2009, 02:00 AM
No no, Usually in the HVAC the bulb and its holder are one piece, you would replace this piece with the T1.5 leds.

Now sometimes the bulb and the holder are different pieces. You would have to take the bulb out the holder and put in a 74 type led bulb.

I know superbrightleds carries the T1.5s and th 74s

I have te TYC headlights with the hid kit.

Does anyone know how many bulbs are in the AC controls up on the overhead front console that controls the rear air?

Also, I realize after reading several threads that the 5 bulbs in the 4x4 switch will need to be soldered in. What type of bulbs are needed though?

Almost down with the front dash. I tried the white LED thing haks (don't get 6k white LED's, it comes out too blue) but am switching to all blue. Your list needs some updating!

Also, are these the type of T1.5's i need? :http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR&next=50#T1.5-A-N

haks310
09-10-2009, 11:25 AM
Don't have rear AC but I am guessing they would be T1.5s also. Take it down and see what is going on behind there. LoL when I did the LED swap all they offered where the 6000K LEDs, they are slowly starting to offer 5000K now though. Why the switch to all blue now? I can't recall what type of bulb the 4x4 switch will need, TGB asked the same question a while back and I answered him, hopefully he remembers, if not I will try digging it up for you.

Yeah you will need the T1.5 Instrument LEDs

TahoeGoBoom
09-10-2009, 05:41 PM
The 4x4 were soldered. I was gonna take apart neo3s to do it iirc. never got around to it. all my money keeps gettin dried up elsewhere.

haks310
09-10-2009, 07:07 PM
It is 5 of them, am sure you can solder any type of LED in there. 74s should work.

2 come on when you turn the parking lights on, the other 3 are for when the 4x4 is on.

Yeah, lights up the same. I only seen the NEO4 bulb in there. Didn't open up the switch completely so I wouldn't be able to tell you if there is a bulb soldered in there also.

I personally like vleds.com

Same here, I just wish they carried all the neo wedge bulbs and t1.5's.

AWESOME customer service though.......If only Comcast had the same.

Why the switch to all blue now?

I put the white bulbs from v-led's in there and its got too much blue tint to it ans it's a little to bright......I also gave up on my "painted" white needles becuase once I painted them, I couldn't get them to light up like stock. Plus, when I put the needles back on, they are a bit off and don't smoothly move anymore. I guess i moved them alittle and pushed them down too hard.

I figured when I get me esky cluster in, i'm not going to EVER take off the needles again. So sanding off the blue backing plastic is out of the question. With all that, I just gave up and figured i'd do all blue. More power to you though, I can't keep up.

I looked at the a/c controller in the overhead and think i might have to take the entire overhead console down to access the unit. Anyone ever done this?

That fucken sucks.....makes me feel better about just breaking one tab on mine though lol.

Overhead console is two peices. The whole assembly is held up by one screw up front...by the rearview mirror. After that there is about 12 more screws that hold the two peices together.

Haks, thanks for the info, i'll try and find that screw tonight in the overhead console.

Will any 194 bulb fit, like on V-LED there's a 2 V-LEDS BLUE 27 SMT LIGHT BULBS 194 168 158 2821 for $18 would that pair fit? And also, the autotrac push button 4wd theres different selections on that so 4 different lights, what led bulbs would they be?

I've been using this thread to convert my exterior lights to leds but I've been throw a curveball. V-leds says to use these SRCK 3157 for my center tail light but to use the regular 3157 for the top light. Im not sure if the regular will work because it shows a close-up of the connector and there is only one ground. Anyone know what the deal is? Oh, and of course these bulbs are out of stock! Also, for the guys that have done their AC controls; if you had to do it again, would you spend the extra money and get the "high power" models or just stick to the regular ones superbrightleds.com sells.

regular vs high power: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi

haks310
09-29-2009, 11:36 AM
I do notthink the regular 3157 will work. Believe they were having problems with the LEDs getting fried, that is why they came out with these new SRCK bulbs. Has been a problem with other places that make LEDs also.

I had to take down the whole upper console to get to the map lights, don't know if there is an easier way. I's stick with the regular LEDs for the HVAC...I probably would have gone with the high powered ones if they had them when I bought mine. Then again I sometimes over do it with the lights lol

Well, I finally got a chance to take my overhead console down and tear into the rear HVAC controls. They are definitely NOT 194’s but do look a lot like them and are a wedge type bulb. If anyone could look at the pictures below and help me out as to what size bulb these are I’d be very appreciative. As soon as I get these identified I’ll be ordering the last batch of LED’s to finish off the job.

Are you talking about disconnecting the wires. You might not have to take off the dash, but thats the only way I know how. I think you can just pop out the whole 4x4 section off of the dash. Heres what the connections looked like. Just did this and its dark but here are some pics sorry if they look bad. I just use a screwdriver and kinda pry it. You don't have to use a lot of stregth but they can be frustrating but take your time. I just popped mine off heres what it looks like. Now from opening up the 4x4 box you're on your own lol sorry. I'm sure someone can help you with that part. Hope these pics kinda help, not the best it's night time. Ok you see in pic 3 you press in to slide out the blue piece, its held in by that black upsidedown U shaped piece. Then the other on you push the screwdriver inbetween the black upside down U shaped piece and slide that on out.

Thanks to you, Mavr1ck! I got that son bitch out mighn did require some excessive force for some reason for the larger blue module my luckfully I didn't ding it up anywhere where you can see it but my flathead screwdriver gave it some battle scars ha but I don't care aslong as its out. The smaller one popped right out. And for future reference to anyone else to get the whole 4x4 module to properly pop out you should take off the dashboard half way and then theres a tab you can push below the 4x4 module then if you just pull on it, it pops out.

New question, the CD case holder is attached to the top of the heat controls (1994 2dr yukon). My question is, is there a trick to getting the two left screws off of the heating controls because they seem to be sitting in a way that i cannot get them off, and i need them off to get to the right side to remove the right side bolts for my gauges.

They seem to be the same size as the rest of the bolts, but they seem to be sitting too close to two of the sides to get to them.

Any advice?

Hi, I'm new here but I came to ask a question.

On my Autotrac 4x4 selector, the bulb behind the 4Hi/4Lo switch has died. I already ordered the LEDs a few days ago (they are arriving today)

Thing is, I don't know how to remove the bulb. I will be replacing both bulbs but I feel that if I just wing it and try to remove the bulb, that it's going to break something.

You will have to de-solder them and obviously solder in the new ones. I am not even sure what type of bulbs those are but the NEO3 bulb should be able to work in there.

So.. Hoping one of you expert's can help me out, as I'm a bit out of my depth.

I'm looking at doing the gauges(as I have one out @ the moment), and I was hoping I might appeal to the collective wisdom here, in regards what sort of lights I want for the dash gauges. Now I know the list (http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=21719&postcount=1) cites that I want 6 #194's for the gauges.

Be curious to hear more specifically what I should pick up at superbrightleds.com (http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fmini-wedge.html)

I know I want blue, And I'm fairly sure I want the 90(? 120?) degree beams(I think that way I'll avoid hotspots), And trying to work out if the push-n-twist adapters are needed.

Don't suppose anyone can shed any light on my... heh... light dilemma?

I used the WLED-x6s off superbrightleds, and have no hotspots. You won't need new twistlocks if thats what you wondering. You can just unplug the old ones and just put in the leds.

Yep, No soldering! :) Only things I believe you have to solder is like if you have the hatch open switch, rear wiper, push button 4x4, or foglight switch for limiteds and z71s. I think those are the only things that require soldering.

Interesting. In this thread, the guy recommended the single-LED version (in 120 degree beam angle):

http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10270

I wonder if there's a material difference between the 6-LED ones like yours and the wide-angle single-LED? It's about $1.50 per light difference in price.

Which WLEDs do you have? The WLED-x is one LED. The WLED-x4 has 4 LEDs in the lamp; the x5 and x6 have 5 and 6 LEDs in each.

Wondering about the 3157 back up lights. I'm not sure why GM used dual-filament bulbs in those lights. Do both filaments light up or just one? If just one, it seems the 3157 would not necessarily use all of the LEDs in a back up light application.

I'm looking at the 25-LED replacements:
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2F3156_57_specs.htm

I wonder if using the 3157 (dual-filament replacement) would only use some of the LEDs while the 3156 (single filament replacement) would use all 25 of them?

Just did my led swap for the interior, sorry I didn't do this sooner. Only one question though, is there anyway our are they all, dim around the 50 mph mark? Any way to fix it?

Is it possible you got one LED in with reverse polarity?

Which brand & model LEDs did you use for the dash and in the door panels?

They are they cool white weld 6 from superbrightleds.com. I think its probably because I bought the cheaper ones, besides I want to change the now. I thought they were going to look bluish not purple. Oh well

Hmm. I think I may go with the SMD (surface mount) type LEDs instead of the WLEDs on mine and for my dad's '88. I was actually looking to do blue on mine but he just wants a brighter white for his. Not sure that cool white is what he's looking for. Maybe their "Natural White" would be better?

Your door panel lights look a lot whiter than the ones in the dash--are they the same, cool white?

Same as your dash, the "cool white"? Interesting that the doors actually look white while the gauges look blue. Hmm.

Lotsa hotspots there. I've been reading some other threads on fullsizechevy and think I'm going to go with superbrightleds HP5 model. It's the high power surface mount type LEDs and has a forward facing LED as well as 4 radial ones to shine outwards. Pix with those show very uniform lighting.

yeah these are all forward facing. they work great in the doors. i'll see if i can find a deal on some SMDs.

So I have replaced 95% of the interior lights to LEDs. However, I have something strange happening. When I went to replace the lights for the instrument panel indicators the 2 bulbs for the ABS and the Airbag appeared to be a bit different from the others. They had a twist lock base but the bulbs were not removeable. So I purchased 2 new twist lock bases and put some LEDs in there. Now the ABS and Airbag indicator lights constantly stay lit. Any thoughts?

That's strange. I have no idea but something you might try is swapping one of your new light/twistlock combos with one of the OEMs you still have in there, and see if the problem switches places. At least you'd know whether something is screwy with the light/base combo or if perhaps something happened to the board during installation (seems unlikely though).

I'll be interested to hear others' opinions on it :hmm:

anyone have any idea to get rid of the hyperflash on the turn signals? am i going to need resistors on all the flashing corners?

Yu can switch to an electronic version of the flasher that times itself.

I'm curious why your trip meter and odo are still white. Mine glow blue from the gauge lamps.

How do you remove the actual map lights from the assembly once it is off the headliner? the bulb is inside the housing and I cannot figure out how to get to the bulb?

SunlitComet
09-18-2011, 08:21 PM
push up and rotate lamp housing. it should drop down. Like take on a bulb on you parking lights. Once out you will see the socket being held to the housing with two snap clips.

Has anyone replaced their blinker, well both of them i believe they are part number (211)? Anyways my question is do they come with the dual lighting from superbrightlights.com? I'm looking at the pic and it doesn't show the back to them any input would be great. thanks

SunlitComet
10-23-2011, 03:48 PM
211 or 211-2 is a festoon bulb usually used in the dome lighting. Are you perhaps talking about the flasher unit. For what year? Also the url you type is a parked ad page. What are you trying to do exactly?

Unscrew for screws holding the assembly, carefully remove module and you will find the bulb socket on the back. Turn them slightly and pull out.

I'm sorry about that i was reading the wrong part i'm an idiot! yes me!lol. It's 1157 that i really meant. My question is do the leds from superbrightlights come with the dual for the blinker and running lights? Also do i need any resisitors? thanks

SunlitComet
10-25-2011, 02:10 PM
1157 are dual circuit. You will either need load resistors or a led compatible flasher for the turn/hazard signal circuit. Each one will be a separate cost. Go with a flasher unit you only need one for the whole system and not multiple resistors which just take up space. My specific setup had resistors already installed front and back. With the flasher replacement I cut and removed them all for a true "energy efficient" conversion. The flasher for should be good for turn and hazard.
