do you guys find that you get more power out of your 5.7 when you:

1) run open cats

or

2) run a high performance muffler (ex. flowmaster, magnaflow, etc.)

Im wondering because im thinking about taking my flowmaster off (feels like theres no power) and getting the magnaflow 15701 kit in a few weeks.

Gimme some ideas on what you think

Mike

Can't address your first one... I live in an emissions testing area.
On the second one, I've run both a Delta Flow 50/SUV muffler and now a Magnaflow catback. In both cases, I had my Thorley headers... I far prefer the performance of the Magnaflow.

Just do one and two. Cut the cat off and use the money from scraping it to buy a nice muffler, and you'll even have money left over! It's a win-win situation!

i guess it is a good possibility that my cats are going bad... i have sputtering when im cruising between 60 and 80. other than that i dont feel anything though... i have my muffler off and it feels like everything freed up since i had the muffler on.

if you need visual, pull the cats off, with a cutting wheel, open the top of it that faces twowards the floor board, beat out all internals, them weld back shut, bolt up. Visually they look OEM stock, inside, they are empty.

i cut mine off just recently...loss of bottom end and a gain from top end. apparantly after i get my truck street tuned at futral tom i should see my bottom gains back as well as keeping what i gained in top. if your concerned with emissions deleting the rear o2 sensors clears that right up. thats what i did and it worked like a charm. just a suggestion

how do you delete the rear o2 sensors? and how much bottom end is lost thru hollowing the cats?

removing my cats did make me loose low end...i got an upgrade to street tune today at futral and he confirmed it. checked my previous stuff after the basic...ive got it back now and some. i had a hypertech before....definitely go custom tuning.
