i'm thinking some 22's or 24's, probably 22's, and drop to make it look good. but at the same time i don't wanna go too low to where i can't tow my boat. then again, i've been debating a roll pan with a hide a hitch, which i'm thinking is a higher receiver hitch since it's not below the bumper anymore, and behind instead. so maybe i'll pick up a couple, 3 inches on my hitch height, which would let me drop accordingly in the back and remain at the same height. but then i gotta contemplate losing the spare to do it... decisions decisions. i'm probably just overanalyzing like i do about everything, to the point that i often lose interest before i follow through. so often it's not a matter of lack of means, just more a lack of decision making on my part. oh well. we'll see what happens.

I'm dropped with factory hitch. I use a 2" drop hitch but flip it upside down, 2" up. I've pulled an 8000lb trailer a couple times no problem. Never used my spare tire in the 3 years I've had it so I got rid of it. I also have one of those 250psi compressors that you plug into your cigarette lighter.
I wouldnt heitate to pull a 4000lb boat with a hidden hitch and some helper bags. Buy a little compressor, ditch the spare and dont look back
branndon_b
03-11-2010, 09:57 PM
i guess my boat hitch is just kinda high, cause i use like a 5 in drop hitch i think, flipped. and it settles out kinda level when it's on my truck. as far as i know i'm factory height, doesn't look lowered. maybe my rear springs are tired? but that's the only thing i really pull with it, the only heavy thing, anyway. (22' bay boat). it might just be tongue heavy, no telling. haven't pulled much stuff in general, so i dunno. anyhow, thanks for the info. didn't mean to threadjack it. branndon

it rides ok a little bouncy take the bump stop bracket out when u do the flip kit
the bracket has a bolt on one side and a rivet on the other just take the bolt out and spin the bracket to the back and it will be out of the way
unless u want to drill or cut out that rivet

hey lowered 4wd owners. How low can you go with torsion keys? and how does the front end ride? I really want to lower mine. and what is the best way to lower the rear? dont want to go to low. I have to haul my boat in the summer
clean454
05-03-2010, 12:16 AM
u can go a inch or 2 with stock keys up front u need drop keys to lower the front more
if u tow how heavy is ur boat?
id just get shackles for the rear and i will drop u a 1-2 inches in the rear and just adjust the front keys down
if u wanna go lower ur prolly gunna need helper bags to support ur boat or whatever your towing

05-03-2010, 12:22 AM
ya the boat is pretty big. maybe 3000 pounds fully loaded? I have been wanting to get helper bags for some time anyways. I guess i can start with shackles and just crank down my stock keys. can i run helper bags with the shackle/hanger drop?

as far as helper bags go...i used mine to stiff'n my ride because of the 4inch drop springs. makes a huge differences and its still serves its purpose when im towing. i ran the switch for the compressor into the console. if you want pics ill take them towards the end of the week. you can see my set up pretty good from underneath the truck

looks good but you gotta get some meat on those rims. It looks like you are riding around on chrome spares with flat tires all around.
Bogsona99 that color, front clip & drop looks sick but I do agree with 2drhoeon4s. It needs some meat or some 22s!
txhoescrapin
06-15-2010, 09:43 AM
LOL, I gues the pics don't show how low it really is, there is no room for "meat" or 22's, if I go any bigger the tire in back will rub top of fender well, and the front will be tucked and won't be able to turn. I do appreciate the input though. I actually like the 35 series tires, I gues to each is his own!

When I had 20s on stock height I was running 285/50/20 just to fill the fender. They rubbed a little bit in the rear but could not notice and didn't tear up the tire. The front is where I noticed. I just cut out the inner lip of the fender and then slightly rolled the fender. Problem fixed. I'm running 2/4 on 295/35/24 I know it's not 4/6 but I think you could fit a little bigger tire and look a little better. :imo::happy160:
I don't have much room with the 2/4 on 24s

I understand your point, but a 2/4 is not in the same ballpark as a 4/6, travel is completely different, My fenders are completely rolled, I can promise you with 100% certainty that there is no way to get bigger tires, unless i get 18's and I don't want 18's. I appreciate that you don't like my tires, I actually like them alot.

Thanks man I appreciate it.
I have to look for my stock measurements to give you an idea of what the actual drop is. I had posted them in another forum somewhere.
I have Hotchkis coils (3" drop) with a spring isolater/spacer thats roughly an inch. The rear is a flip kit with helper bags. I have about 90lbs in the bags to get it to sit how you see it.
This is how it sat when I got it home, before the helper bags.

Sam...
Digging the new stance. :D Shoot me some details on what all you did, if you don't mind. Also, any insight on the handling and ride differences associated with the suspension change? tire change?
Hi Robert,
Thanks man. The details, I have Hotchkis coils with my belltech coil spacer/isolater which is about an inch, maybe a little less. I think my front is about 2.5".
The rear is the flip with the included lift hanger, supposed to be 5.5" drop. I have just about 90lbs in the helpers to get it to sit as you see it. Honestly, the ride isnt that great. With the 90lbs in the bags the leafs/shocks arent doing much. In other words, its bouncy over bumps. I'm going to put my spindles on, with it aired out and the spindles, it would look pretty nice. Also, I'd be able to feel the suspension work. It'll be even better when I get new shocks.
This is a shot of it aired out. It gets a good 2.5" of lift aired up.

They are MB Motoring wheels. They are for sale too. The tires are shot but the wheels are cool.

Here's my 99 z56 Retired Police Tahoe. It is lowered 3-5 with facgtory lowered springs plus spindles and hanger shackle kit. The nose has been swapped to a 99 Denali front end and the body kit is off of a 2000 Tahoe limited. She sits on 20 inch staggared Boss Wheels. Getting close to paint time, I'm thinking black and electric blue two tone. Any thoughts?

Looks good Matt! Shave that antenna once you get some paint work going on!
Are you going to do a simple 2tone black on top and blue on bottom? or something else?
Really digging the truck, just not sure on the grille mesh.

Yeah I was thinking black on top and blue on bottom maybe with thin silver graphic between the two to break it up. Maybe something that looks like a 55 Chevy side mouldings or the deep plunging Buick v of the fifties in silver. The grille isn't simple mesh, it a Street Scene chromed speed grill. In person it looks way nicer than those guys who run gutter mesh.

I planned on shaving the antenna two, I picked up a pioneer shark fin antenna that works for both sattellite and hd radio. I was thinking of shaving the rear door handles too and possibly running a rollpan while I was at it.

I have a mesh grill as well on my Eski converted Blazer. They look much better when they are color matched to your truck. In my opinion Matt, I would paint your mesh when you paint the rest of your truck :)
