Post everything I need to do to get rid of my Catalytic converter? I have a BB tune and I'll send back my original PCM to be tuned for no cats. What else will I need to do?

Why do you want to get rid of it? It is illegal in most states, and some folks experience a loss in power due to loss in backpressure.

I've seen nothing but increases in power. I like my truck loud and its less restrictive. And I REALLY doubt I'm going to get in any trouble, and if I did I'd just say I didn't know.

So could anyone just tell me what else I need to do? Will I need new 02 sensors or what?

Just cut it off and weld up a piece of pipe in place of the cat, it's that simple.

new O2's arent gonna do anything. You're gonna throw codes left and right. you can get O2 simulators, but Jenna is right you WILL lose power and burn up some valves due to loss of back pressure....unless you rebuild your motor to handle it

Hummm.. Well I meant O2 simulators when I said O2 sensors. But where can I find them? And do you really think it would burn up valves?! And if I get it tuned for no Cat's won't it NOT throw codes?

Yes you can get it tuned so it won't throw codes, that's what I did.

How can it blow valves? All it's doing is letting your exhaust flow more freely, wouldn't think you would have to rebuild your motor for that.

dont waste the money on the o2 simms, just have them tuned out. you arent going to blow out valves because of less bp...if that was the case any truck or car with headers/catbacks would be dropping valves left and right due to no backpressure. some may experience loss of low end tq when they run too large of a diameter in exhaust, like say a 3.5"-4" pipe on an otherwise stock engine.

That's the response I was looking for. Thank you yooformula. I agree with you 100%.I Really see no evidence if I remove my Cats with this powerplant setup, that I would be blowing valves. And I don't know why any one would run any larger then 3" exhaust with these trucks either.

I'm going FI and I was highly recommended 2.5" by exhuast guy. I was running 3" Turbo back on the DSM but was that was 500+hp.

I run 2.5" exhaust. Seems fine to me, I'm gonna wait till I have a couple more mods to add to the list before I send my PCM to Black bear to be tuned again and then Security Relearn and shit once again.

Hiya fellas ! I lookin to do the same. I believe i goin to remove cats and see what happens first. But i understand i need the BB Tune. Is anyone interested in South Carolina participating in a Black Bear tune meeting ? It states on their website the Georgia one is full. thx **** the new redneck on the forum

If throwing a straight pipe in instead of the cat caused engine problems, then I think my kon would have died well over a hundred thousand miles ago, as far as I know the CAT on this truck was removed many years ago...
I did the same thing to my old cavalier, no problems at all, if your somewhere they test emmisions then you can get in some major sh*t but if you live in the same kinda location I do, then go hog wild lol

Exactly. My cat was already cut off well before I bought my truck. The guy I bought it off of is friends with my mechanic and goes to him for all his car troubles and what not, so I know my tahoe has always been in good hands, but he cut it off at around 100k miles. I just rolled over 150k and she's still running like a champ, cat-free. :)

No South Carolina stopped inspections over 10 years ago. So i do believe i am going to be Catless this weekend. My Engine light stays on 24/7. I went to AutoZone and scanned it. It said both O2 sensors bad. My Yuk has a new crate moto and from day one it skipped BADLY. So i took it back to shop, they said they thought it was bad gas, it had been sitting up with blown moto for 2 years. I put seafoam and high octane. Same results. So back to shop. When i got her out, the bad skip was now a very little skip. Especially take off and WOT it'll bump bump or skip skip a little just enough to be agrevating. Take off it seems to stammer then go. I asked the mechanic what was wrong and he stated he had to tweak things here and there. If it still wasn't to my liking bring it back. So i did, then he stated i needed to replace quite a few things, 02 MAP Plug wires cap roto and so on. Then my skip should go away. All of my stuff is original never been replaced so its prolly time. but i first want to start with cat and work backwards in a sense.
